Marcel Lok was trained as a structural engineer and then studied architecture at the Technical University in Delft, where he graduated in 2002. As a student, he worked for Koen van Velsen in Hilversum, among others. From 1999 to 2008 he worked for Wingender Hovenier Architecten (now Office Winhov) and afterwards for some time as a freelance architect for HVDN architects (now Studioninedots), both in Amsterdam. Since 2005 he has been a guest lecturer at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam. Marcel Lok received a first prize in 2008 for the international architecture competition europan 9 in Geneva and also received a work grant from the Netherlands Fund for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (BKVB Fund).
In 2008 Marcel starts his own office named Marcel Lok_Architect (ML_A) and works on a range of diverse projects at different scales. In addition to the daily office practice, Marcel Lok has been a committee member of the Spatial Quality Committee in Amsterdam since 2018. In addition, Marcel Lok has supervised graduates of the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture in recent years, an inspiring role in sharing knowledge and vision and stimulating talent.
